Canon Powershot SD 1200 Review

My Powershot SD1200 Review – A Must Have, Easy to Use, Point and Click Camera

Check Out This Information Before You Buy Canon Powershot SD1200

Keeping in mind that this Powershot SD1200 review is being written by a girl, I'm sure you'll understand when I say that one of the things that first attracted me to this camera was the fact that it was available in pink. There, I said it. I like this camera because it's pink.

However, I know that's not enough information for you to make an intelligent buying decision, so I went ahead and took a look at how the camera actually performs – just in case you're interested.

Here's some of the benefits we discovered -

  • Face Detection Self Timer
  • Image Quality
  • Smart Auto Mode
  • Compact Size

While conducting my tests for this Powershot SD1200 review, I nearly missed the coolest feature of all on this camera.

I must have skipped right over it a dozen times. But this camera has so many neat features in such a tiny package that it's easy to see how you might overlook one in the beginning.

The SD1200 has several pre-programmed settings and the one I had the most fun with is the Face Detection Self Timer.

Face Detection Self Timer - Now most cameras will have some kind of timer you can set to give you time to get around in front of the lens and work yourself into that group picture. But you only have a few seconds and then the camera automatically snaps whether you've made it across the room or not.

But in reviewing the Powershot SD1200, I found that, when you use the Face Detection Self Timer mode, you line up the shot and then the camera doesn't take the picture until it detects another face in the frame. So you could technically set up the shot, run and fix your makeup, and then step into the frame and get a perfect picture every time. That is, if the rest of the group didn't mind holding that pose.

Image Quality - Speaking of perfect pictures, the Powershot SD1200 passed this part of my review with flying colors. This compact little camera really packs a punch when it comes to clarity and vibrancy of colors. The only time I noticed a problem was in darker shots or shots that were heavily shadowed. Other than that, even skin tones were perfect.

Smart Auto Mode - No review of the Powershot SD200 would be complete without mentioning the Smart Auto mode. The SD1200 has comes standard with 18 pre-configured settings and one of them is Auto. This is the perfect setting for those who don't want to have to worry about lighting and shadows. Just set the camera to Auto and it makes all the decisions for you. I used this setting nearly the whole time I was testing this camera and never had a bad picture the entire time.

Compact Size - I've already mentioned that this is a little camera several times but since this is a review, the Powershot SD1200 is smaller than a deck of playing cards and very light weight. It fits easily in the palm of your hand and the fact that it comes in several fun colors only adds to the “must have” factor of this easy to use, point and click camera as far as I'm concerned.
